Occasionally pieces were mis-marked by the factory and the wrong backstamp applied.
Sometimes jugs show up without a backstamp although this is unusual.
Mis-marking does not imply that the piece is a fake.

I have recently seen a small Porthos without any id #, and another marked with the id of the large jug, D6440, instead of D6453. Are these likely fakes, or did the factory sometimes mismark them?
